Nevada, like many US states, has struggled with drug abuse and addiction, issues that have been exacerbated by the state’s high unemployment and homelessness, as well as the fact that cities like Reno and Las Vegas have become hubs for hedonism.
The city of Henderson, which sits around 16 miles southeast of the City of Sin, has borne the brunt of a lot of these issues in recent years and has suffered tremendously as a result.
The good news is that there is more help than ever and while the Silver State is not going to fix its addiction issues anytime soon, there are quality Henderson sober living facilities, such as those provided by Carla Vista, that are gradually tackling the issue and helping thousands of addicts to find their feet.
Nevada Sober Living
The opioid epidemic has decimated the US healthcare industry and has brought millions of families to their knees. It has been a major part of US society for several years now and has shown few signs of going away. However, there have been some pockets of hope and between 2011 and 2014 Nevada was one of them.
The state recorded a drop in overdose deaths between these years, even though the nationwide rate has been on a steady increase for over two decades(1). Throughout the last 20 years or so the rate of overdose deaths in Nevada has been much higher than the US average and this was even true during the aforementioned three-year period, but while Nevada’s rates are now on par with the national average, this is the result of a significant increase in the latter as opposed to a major drop in the former.
There are over 2.4 million prescriptions for opioids in the state of Nevada, resulting in over 250 deaths. Heroin use is also high and fentanyl use is increasing as well, with many experts pointing the blame at prescription opioids. They believe that people are being prescribed opioids for legitimate issues, only to get hooked on these drugs and then go in search of something cheaper and stronger when they have them taken away.
This means that there could be thousands of Nevada citizens currently dealing with a heroin addiction that resulted from a legitimate health complaint. These addicts are putting their lives on the line with every use, as the strength of street heroin can change drastically and it’s also being tainted with potent opioids like fentanyl, which can kill with doses of just 2 milligrams.
Heroin users are also at risk for HIV, with the CDC estimating that as many as two-thirds of acute-HIV cases are the result of intravenous drug use, and hepatitis C, with approximately 22,200 people in Nevada currently living with this disease. (2)(3)
Nevada sober living facilities can help to fix these issues slowly but surely, giving addicts the help they need to kick their habits, improve their health and restore their livelihood, while helping to stitch the fabric of this state back together again.
Henderson Sober Living
Sober living in Henderson is often overlooked in favor of similar facilities in Las Vegas. But while the City of Sin does have a big issue with drug and gambling addiction, its close neighbor is battling just as many demons. Not only are there thousands of addicts within the city who are looking for sober living facilities close to home, but these facilities also provide an option for residents of the nearby metropolis who want to escape the neon-lights and the chaos it brings.
The Henderson sober living centers run by Carla Vista provide addicts with an array of services to help with every stage of withdrawal, but the most important goal is to act as a go-between, sitting in between the addict’s previous life and their new one.
Research shows that addicts who go through short-stay rehabs are a much higher risk for relapse. They may have undergone the physical torment of withdrawals, but they still have to deal with the psychological and emotional issues, and they may have to do this while continuing to live around the people that they once consumed drugs with. A sober living facility provides them with a neutral location in which they can gradually work through their issues and build their confidence, before returning to their old life when they are 100% prepared for it.
Henderson sober living facilities provide recovering addicts with daily support from professionals, as well as people going through the same struggles as they are. These facilities aim to tackle all aspects of withdrawal and recovery and to do so in a way that reduces the risk of relapse. A short-stay rehab clinic is designed to get the addict through acute withdrawal and to send them on their way when they are sober and drug free; a sober living facility is designed to provide a more complete and comprehensive program aimed at long-term sobriety.
